This is the Signed unique original Gouache painting by Cecil Doughty.

Job Charnock founded Fort William on behalf of the East India company. The small settlement grew into the city of Calcutta. One day early in the settlement's history he saw an Indian woman about to become a sacrifice at her husband's funeral (suttee). Charnock barged through the crowd to rescue the woman. He had to fight his way back to the fort where he later married the lady.

Published in Look and Learn issue 550, 29 July 1972.
