Medium: Gouaches on Card
Size: 12" x 8" (310mm x 200mm)
Date: c. 1970

These are the unique original Gouache paintings by Ron Embleton.

Two fantastic paintings by the great Ron Embleton featuring what at first looks to be a very unfair race between a hare and a school boy loaded down with a big satchel. The competitors are being cheered on by a group of Regency Dandy type animals.

The paintings would have appeared on two facing pages of a pre-school comic, probably Once Upon A Time in about 1970. It was later re-used for the Jack and Jill Annual 1982. Note how the schoolboy with his bag resembles the Tortoise in the famous Aesop Fable.
