This is the Signed unique original Gouache painting by Dan Escott.

The Siege of Calais began in 1346, towards the beginning of what would later be called the Hundred Years' War. The six burghers surrendered to King Edward III when the siege became so severe that even the sacrifice of 500 children and elderly could not make provisions last.

King Edward III wanted Calais as a secure base while he fought for the Kingship of France. This piece by Dan Escott is taken from Historic Castles of the World: Calais -- and the Heroic Six. This is the original artwork from Look and Learn no. 435 (16 May 1970).
