This is the unique original Watercolour painting by Ken Petts.

Pirates raise the Skull & Crossbones as their ship closes in on a merchantman. Captain Kidd became a privateer (a pirate supported by the government), raiding enemy ships, and was then given the job of eradicating pirates before allegedly turning on British shipping. After a trial in 1701 he was hung but never revealed the location of his alleged pirate hoard.

This picture accompanied a short feature on the career of Captain Kidd and was also the cover to Look and Learn #802 published 28th May 1977.
